How The Grinch Stole Christmas 1966

The Grinch made his first television appearance in December of 1966

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is a children's story by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel written in rhymed verse with illustrations by the author. It was published as a book by Random House in 1957, and at approximately the same time in an issue of Redbook. The book criticizes the commercialization of Christmas. In 1966, CBS introduced the animated version of Dr. Seuss' children's story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Directed by Chuck Jones — an animator and director best known for his work on a long line of classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons for Warner Bros. Cartoons — and produced by Jones and Theodor "Ted" Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss), the storyline faithfully recreates Seuss' tale of a small-hearted creature who, in an effort to stop Christmas from coming, decends into Whoville to "steal" Christmas from the town's residents.

Actor Boris Karloff narrates the much-beloved special, and supplies the voice of the Grinch.
